Looking for the right presence detector? You will find what you need at GEZE
Comfortable, accessible – and, of course, secure: These are the characteristics you naturally expect from automatic doors. As the operator of an automatic door, you are responsible for ensuring people can pass in and out of the door safely. Good thing there are sensors that detect promptly when something or someone nears the door using radar or infrared technology. Depending on whether the door is opening or closing at the time, the process is immediately stopped, or the passage is released again directly.
Reliable sensors for added safety

A presence detector is an ideal choice for anyone seeking optimal protection for an automatic swing door or sliding door. Especially since traffic safety requirements under European standard EN 16005 specify that sensors must be used to prevent crushing, shearing and impacts while the door opens and closes. GEZE offers a wide variety of products in this area: We would be happy to help you select the right presence detector for your needs.
There are four overarching categories to select from:
- Sensor strips are moving sensors, and have active infrared rays that monitor the travel range of an automatic swing door.
- Laser scanners – also moving sensors – cover the primary and secondary closing edge in their range, in addition to the travel range for swing doors.
- Active infrared detectors protect secondary closing edges, and can also be used for activation. They offer highly flexible adjustment options thanks to integrated configurations.
- Combined detectors, which are suitable for sliding doors, combine a radar movement detector with an infrared light curtain. They ensure that the automatic sliding door opens at the right time and does not touch the user.
We offer a variety of options for each of these sensor models to precisely meet your stipulations. We would be happy to advise you on which one to select.
Four questions to select the right presence detector
GEZE offers a variety of sensor solutions, adapted to every possible door solution and entry situation. But which sensor is suitable for which automatic door? The following questions serve as a guide to help you select the right product for your needs.
Whether you are looking for a presence detector for a swing door or a sliding door, we have products to meet your needs. Active infrared detectors and combined detectors are designed exclusively for sliding doors. Revolving doors are a special case: Due to their complexity and high variability, these are customised for specific projects. Our experts will identify the right protection for your revolving door.
All models are suitable for swing doors up to an installation height of 2,500 mm; however, we can also handle heights up to 3,850 mm with the GC 342 and GC 342+.
All active infrared detector and combined detector variants are suitable for sliding doors, up to a sensor installation height of 3,500 mm. A special sensor can also be installed.
For swing door widths of up to 1,200 mm, you can choose from among all sensor solutions for swing doors; for wider designs (>1,200 mm with vertical push-bar), you can select the GC 342 or GC 342+ laser scanner.
Door width also plays a role with sliding doors – the number of sensors you will need is dependent on door width, as well as the installation height. We also have suitable sensor solutions for escape and rescue route doors.
Other criteria when selecting the right sensor for swing and sliding doors include comfort functions, such as those offered by some sensor solutions: such as expanded protection, a virtual push button or a remote control.
